Two men remained hospitalized Tuesday, one of them in critical condition, following the crash of their stolen car during a police chase in Syracuse.
Syracuse police Lt. Tracy Jensen said a Davis County sheriff's deputy called 911 about 8 p.m. Monday after allegedly seeing the suspects flee out the back door of the Walmart at 2228 W. 1700 South with the stolen items — including a television and a computer monitor — in their arms. The duo got into a gold PT Cruiser and sped away.
Jensen said one of the responding Syracuse police officers spotted the suspect vehicle leaving the scene in the opposite lane, turned around and began pursuit. During the ensuing chase, the suspects pulled around another vehicle and spun out as their car left the paved roadway near 3000 West and 300 North and onto the soft shoulder. The PT Cruiser then rolled, ejecting one of the suspects.
That man remained in critical condition Tuesday at Ogden Regional Medical Center, where he had been flown by medical helicopter. The second man, transported by ground ambulance, was in serious condition at McKay-Dee Hospital.
Police learned that the totaled PT Cruiser had been reported stolen out of Tremonton earlier in the week.
