A 4-year-old boy found floating in a Park City resort swimming pool died Monday.

Miles Kelly, of Salt Lake City, was found unconscious in the pool at Montage Resort in Deer Valley about 5 p.m. Saturday. An aunt pulled the child from the pool and handed him to his father, Mark Kelly, who began CPR. Resort employees soon arrived and took over CPR, and then were relieved by Park City Fire Department paramedics.

West Lunsford, the victim's uncle, said that after some 30 minutes of life-saving efforts, the boy had a pulse. A helicopter flew Miles to Primary Children's Medical Center.

Lunsford said the child died at 4:54 p.m. Monday of complications related to the drowning.

The child is survived by his father, Mark; mother, Andrae Kelly; and an 18-month-old baby sister.

"Miles really loved his little sister. They were best friends," Lunsford said. "He was such a sweet, loving, thoughtful little boy."

Lunsford said the boy, who was attending a family reunion with his parents, was swimming with other relatives Saturday afternoon when the adults decided to go to a nearby hot tub. Miles initially accompanied his parents away from the pool.

"He was with his mother and father and with us. We had all gone to the hot tub," Lunsford said. "We're not exactly sure what he was doing, but we lost sight of him for a brief moment."

Resort security video showed the boy returning to the pool and jumping in with a "noodle" flotation device. Then, the inflatable tube got away from him and the boy disappeared under the water of the crowded pool.

Moments later, the aunt spotted the boy and jumped in.

"With so many different people in the water, he didn't get noticed right away. . . . It only took seconds," said Lunsford, choking back tears.
