Police say a Kearns man pulled a gun on a group of people, telling them he was going to kill them, but wound up shooting himself in the foot.
The man was charged Thursday with three counts of aggravated assault and impersonating a peace officer in 3rd District Court.
On July 25, the 30-year-old man drove up to three males on a sidewalk, got out of his car and pointed a handgun at them, telling them he was with the "sheriff's office" and that he was going to kill them, according to the charges. But when he put the handgun back in his waistline, one of the three males tackled the man.
As they struggled, the man got a hold of his gun again, but it went off and the bullet hit him in the foot, the charges state. One of the other males grabbed the gun away from the man and tossed it aside, and they kept him pinned to the ground until the real police arrived.
