A 12-year-old boy died Thursday in a two-vehicle accident on U.S. 40 near the town of Fort Duchesne in Uintah County.
Two Honda Civics were traveling toward each other on the highway about 4:45 p.m. when the eastbound one crossed into oncoming traffic, possibly due to a flat tire, near mile marker 130 on the highway, according to the Utah Highway Patrol. The eastbound Honda crashed into the other head-on, splitting the eastbound vehicle in two and ejecting its two occupants.
A boy in that vehicle, Carleton "CJ" Seely, of Roosevelt, died at the scene. The driver, 34-year-old Angela Davis, also of Roosevelt, suffered critical injuries and was flown in a medical helicopter to a Salt Lake City-area hospital. Cpl. Todd Johnson could not confirm if the two are family.
The 51-year-old driver of the westbound Honda, Blair Kay of Mona, had minor injuries and was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
There are no indications that excessive speeds or impairment for either driver. The crash remains under investigation.
