Draper • A special matchup between Utah State-bound Jalen Moore and Utah-signed Parker Van Dyke lived up to the hype.

But when it came to the contest between East and Sky View, the Leopards undoubtedly had the upper hand.

East made short work of the Bobcats in a 64-46 win on Thursday afternoon in the Jordan Holiday Tournament. With the Juan Diego gym as his stage, Van Dyke led the show with a 22-point effort, but his teammates around him took care of business as well — rebounding in the paint, shooting from the flanks and generating plenty of turnovers to keep the Leopards humming this season.

"Everyone did a lot, everyone contributed," Van Dyke said. "We just focused on what we needed to do, and it was a great team effort."

Aside from the very beginning, it was hardly ever a close affair. East took a 13-5 lead in the first quarter, one that kept growing and growing.

Moore scored the first seven points for Sky View, but he was the only Bobcat who scored for the first 13 minutes of the game. East pounded the boards, as forwards such as 6-foot-9 Peter Barrus and 6-foot-4 Pa'a Montalbo kept size-deficient Sky View from getting anything around the hoop.

Van Dyke streaked particularly in the second half, scoring his team's first seven points with drives, 3-pointers and free throws. But even when the Bobcats tried to collapse on the star senior, East had other answers.

Connor Pardoe, a deadeye shooter, finished with 13. Mitch Grant and Barrus combined for 17 points mostly in the paint.

"When I've seen [Sky View], they've done a lot of damage in the paint," East coach Skip Lowe said. "That was one of our points of emphasis, trying to control the paint and keep them from getting those second chances."

Moore still offered some of the games' most memorable moments in his 22-point performance. He flushed down two one-handed dunks on fast breaks, and had a momentum-seizing block in the second half.

But Sky View never could muster much of a comeback, trailing by more than 20 at times. Ty Nielsen, the next-leading scorer, finished with eight points.
