Wasatch Community Gardens has hired Ashley Patterson as its executive director. The Salt Lake City-based nonprofit empowers people of all ages and incomes to grow and eat healthy, organic, local food. Patterson is the former outreach and education coordinator in the Office of Sustainability at the University of Utah and the founder and president of The Green Building Center.

Newel Jensen has been named a senior transit and highway design engineer in the Murray office of Parsons Brinckerhoff, a global engineering and construction management organization. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Institute of Transportation Engineers. Jensen also serves on the American Consulting Engineers Council's liaison committee with the Utah Transit Authority.

The Salt Lake City-based law firm of Parsons Behle & Latimer has announced that Matthew D. Cook, Nicole Griffin Farrell, Richard E. Mrazik, Brian P. Rosander, Elizabeth A. Schulte and John R. Zimmerman have been named shareholders. Cook is a member of the firm's corporate transactions and securities department; Farrell is with the litigation and employment law departments; Mrazik is with the litigation department; Rosander is with the real estate, banking and finance department; Schulte works in the environmental, energy and natural resources department; and Zimmerman is part of the environmental, energy and natural resources department in the firm's Reno office.

Shea Bettencourt is the new mortgage branch manager at Bank of Utah's Providence location. She worked for more than 14 years as a loan officer for several mortgage lending institutions before being hired by Bank of Utah a year and a half ago.

Dave Zitting, president and CEO of Primary Residential Mortgage Inc. in Salt Lake City, has been elected to an at-large seat on the Mortgage Action Alliance's 2013 Steering Committee. The committee is responsible for guiding MAA's lobbying efforts at state capitals and in Washington D.C.

Amber Craighill, marketing manager for BHB Engineers, was recently awarded the prestigious SMPS Rising Star Award. The award is presented to a nominee who has been in the Utah architecture/engineering/construction industry for three years or less and has shown promise for work in the industry and for contributions to the Society for Marketing Professional Services.

The Salt Lake City-based law firm of Jones Waldo has announced the appointments of Glen D. Watkins to the board of Utah Clean Energy and of Richard Peter Stevens to the advisory board of Secure Settlements, a mortgage risk management company. Watkins is a firm shareholder and an attorney in its real estate law department. Stevens leads Jones Waldo's insurance regulatory practice group.
