A skier who once worked at Deer Valley Resort died there Thursday after hitting a tree.

James Kimball, 38, was going down the Little Bell ski run at noon when he ran into a tree near the juncture with Solid Muldoon ski run, on Bald Eagle Mountain, said resort spokeswoman Emily Summers. He had been skiing alone.

The ski patrol arrived to find Kimball, who had suffered severe head trauma, was dead, Summers said.

Park City police conducted an investigation, which shut down both ski runs and a ski lift that goes over the site of the accident until about 2:30 p.m.

Kimball was a seasonal employee at the resort from 1994 to 2001 and worked in three departments.
