Reno, Nev. • Nevada football coach Brian Polian says one of the players expected to compete for starting running back is no longer on the team.

Polian suspended sophomore Anthony Knight two weeks ago for violating team rules. He told KRNV-TV on Monday that the 6-foot-1, 225-pounder from Boston now has been dismissed from the team.

Knight had a touchdown and 10 yards rushing on just four carries his freshman year but was expected to be in the hunt for the No. 1 back position.

Junior college transfer Don Johnson has been seeing the most action with the first team during spring practice. Redshirt freshman Chris Solomon also has been getting plenty of reps. Nevada's other backs include junior college transfer Nate McLaurin and 230-pound redshirt freshman Xavier Stephens.
