The Utah Highway Patrol says overheated brakes on a car-hauling trailer likely caused a fire that damaged two automobiles Wednesday morning on Interstate 80.

UHP Cpl. Todd Johnson said a semi-rig was hauling two trailers loaded with vehicles about 5:20 a.m. on westbound I-80 in Echo Canyon when the brakes on the second trailer locked and the driver saw the flames and smoke. He managed to detach the burning trailer and firefighters quickly arrived to douse the blaze.

No injuries were reported, but the incident did close down all but one lane of westbound travel at the scene for a couple hours.
