Provo • A Utah court has rejected an appeal from the father of the piano group The 5 Browns who is in prison after pleading guilty to sexually abusing his daughters.

The Utah Court of Appeals ruled that 57-year-old Keith S. Brown waited too long to file a request to change the guilty plea he entered in February 2011.

The Daily-Herald of Provo reports that Brown's attorney says Brown was not in a proper mental state due to drugs he was taking for major injuries he suffered after driving his car off a cliff.

Brown's three daughters and two sons make up the piano group The 5 Browns. Their albums have topped the classical music charts.

The father once served as manager of his children's group, but they severed ties with him in 2008.
