Provo • A BYU basketball spokesperson confirmed Friday that rising senior point guard Raul Delgado has decided to leave the program.
To which college basketball program Delgado is transferring is not known.
Delgado's transfer leaves BYU coach Dave Rose with two available scholarships for the 2013-14 basketball season.
The Cougars recently signed Salt Lake Community College combo guard Skyler Halford, a signal perhaps that Delgado's future in the program was bleak.
Delgado, who prepped at nearby Springville High, played two years of junior college basketball at Western Nebraska Community College before transferring to BYU.
He entered BYU with three years on his clock to play two years, so he leaves with a redshirt year available.
Delgado started the 2012-13 season with an elbow injury that limited his practice time, and never really found a role in Rose's rotation.
He averaged just 6.6 minutes per game and scored just 1.8 points per game. He shot .346 from the field, .258 from 3-point range and had 12 assists, nine steals and eight turnovers.
Delgado, who grew up in Chihauhau, Mexico, had offers from TCU, Utah State, Wyoming and Detroit before committing to BYU in January of 2012. He averaged 19.7 points for WNCC and shot 43 percent from 3-point range during his sophomore season at WNCC.
