A motorcycle driver was killed in Provo Canyon Sunday when he collided with a sport utility vehicle that pulled into his path, the Utah Highway Patrol said.

Brett J. Blanco, 42, of Lehi, died at the scene, according to the UHP. He was not wearing a helmet.

The motorcycle and a Chevy Blazer were eastbound on U.S. 189 near milepost 12 about 4:20 p.m. when the driver of the Blazer pulled to the right and then began to make a U-turn.

The motorcycle hit the Blazer and went down, a preliminary report states.

A 12-year-old boy, a passenger on the motorcycle who was wearing a helmet, suffered minor injuries.

An initial investigation indicates that speed, alcohol or drugs do not appear to have been a factor in the accident.

The investigation remains ongoing, UHP said.
