The National Park Service confirmed Monday that a 5-year-old American Fork boy was killed in a weekend boating accident on Lake Powell.

Denise Shultz, spokeswoman for the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, said the boy was riding in the bow of a boat about 6:30 p.m. Sunday when the vessel hit a wave. The boy fell into the lake and was struck by the boat's propeller.

Shultz said the child, whose identity had not been released, was killed instantly.

The incident occurred up-lake from the Bullfrog Marina, near the Tapestry Wall area.

Shultz said everyone on the boat, including the boy, had been wearing life vests.

The investigation into the accident continued, but no indication of alcohol being involved had been found, Shultz said.
