An apparent cat slaying in Ogden earlier this week led to a parking lot brawl between two women.

The case began Wednesday at about 9:33 p.m. when officers received word of a fight between two women in a parking lot at 525 Park Blvd., according to Ogden police. When officers arrived, the women were already separated and chose not press charges. A news release described the incident as a "simple assault."

However, police later learned that the women were fighting because one of them was upset that the other's son had killed a cat. Police did not say how that information came to light.

Police are now investigating the incident to determine if anyone in the case should face criminal charges. The news release added that police will work with juvenile authorities to determine if a child was "responsible for willfully and cruelly killing an animal."
