A woman was arrested Monday after Transportation Security Administration officers found a loaded handgun in her bag at Salt Lake City International Airport — the 29th firearm that TSA officers have discovered at the security checkpoint during 2013.

It has been a busy year: In all of 2012, TSA screeners confiscated 20 handguns in Utah.

The officers found the woman's loaded Smith & Wesson Bodyguard 380 in her carry-on bag at the security checkpoint, said Lorie Dankers, TSA spokeswoman, in a tweet. The passenger had been on her way to San Diego, Calif.

Officers arrested her under suspicion of carrying a concealed weapon in a sterile area, Dankers said.

The TSA wants to remind flyers that they can only transport unloaded firearms in a locked, hard-sided container either in or as checked baggage. All firearms, firearm parts and ammunition are prohibited in carry-on baggage.
