A man is in police custody after he allegedly opened fire on a former coworker during a dispute in a West Valley City park.

The two men met about 8:30 a.m. at Parkway Park, 3400 W. Parkway Ave., to discuss a work matter, said West Valley City police Sgt. Jason Hauer. The discussion escalated to an argument and then to a physical fight.

One of the men "was pretty beat up," when the other left him on the ground and got into his car to leave, Hauer said. The man on the ground got out a handgun, walked over to the other man's vehicle and fired several rounds into the driver's side, Hauer said.

A nearby officer heard the shots and arrived to see both cars leaving the park.

The suspect's vehicle was found nearby, and its registration led police to the owner's address. The man was taken into custody for interviews, Hauer said.

The victim has not been found and has not shown up at any local hospitals, Hauer said. Investigators do not know whether he was injured in the shooting.

He was driving a dark-colored SUV with several bullet holes on the driver's side, Hauer said. Anyone with information may call police at 801-840-4000.
