The Box Elder County Sheriff's Office said on Thursday that the death of an elderly farmer does not appear to have been suspicious.
Chief Deputy Sheriff Kevin Potter said the victim, identified as Milton Yagi, 84, of West Corinne, appeared to have either slipped into the canal or fallen, perhaps due to a medical event.
However, the body was turned over to the State Medical Examiner's Office to determine an official cause of death.
Potter said dispatchers received a call from Yagi's worried wife about 7:20 p.m. Wednesday, reporting he was overdue from an outing to repair a gate in the rural irrigation canal.
Deputies first located his pickup truck in a field near 7200 West and 2600 North in West Corinne, and then found his body in the water nearby.
