David Bromberg Quintet

Spotlight Show • With all of the hub-bub lately about Bob Dylan's recently released set "Another Self Portrait (1969-1971)," it's interesting to note that David Bromberg played guitar with Dylan on the sessions for the 1970 albums "Self Portrait" and "New Morning," from which the new set takes songs from. Bromberg is one of the best guitar players you have never heard of — in part because Bromberg has been living in Delaware lately working at his violin sales and repair shop. In an interview, Bromberg said he had wanted to go to Peter Prier's famed Violin Making School of America in Salt Lake City, but "I was too old and I wear glasses, so I wouldn't have been accepted." Instead, he went to Chicago to learn how to craft violins, and had semi-retired from performing. Bromberg released his first new studio album since 1990 with "Try Me One More Time" in February 2007, and since then has been fairly prolific, with new album "Only Slightly Mad" due out Sept. 24. He hadn't recorded an album for 17 years because he was "too dumb to realize I was burned out," but the fire has returned. He was asked why he likes about the violin, and responded, "What is it you like about a woman?"
