It's an end of a sweet era at Deer Valley Resort with the recent retirement of executive pastry chef Letty Halloran Flatt.
Flatt has worked at Deer Valley since it opened in 1981. After serving two seasons on the ski patrol, she transferred to Deer Valley's bakery.
In 1988, she was promoted to executive pastry chef where she oversaw the production of all breads, cakes and desserts for the resort's 10 mountain dining establishments. She also is the author of the cookbook "Chocolate Snowball: And Other Fabulous Pastries From Deer Valley Bakery" and the food blog, muffintalk.wordpress.com.
In retirement, Flatt said she plans to rework her blog, changing its name to lettyskitchen.com and offering readers "veggie-centric" recipes.
Pastry chefs Debbie Swenerton and Steve Harty will be assuming Flatt's role in the kitchen, resort spokesperson Emily Summers wrote in an email. "But we are not appointing/hiring an executive pastry chef."
