One of the main arguments Sen. Orrin Hatch used during his recent campaign was his long tenure in the Senate and the clout that goes with it. Our senator has been noticeably absent during most of the recent government shutdown debates.

I would have expected he would be exerting his influence to bring this situation to some sort of resolution; instead he has been content to criticize the president and the Democrats without offering any solutions.

Perhaps 36 years in the Senate is not enough time to gain the clout he claims. Perhaps we should give him another term after this one?
