Rookie center Rudy Gobert has gone missing halfway through the Jazz's preseason.

Gobert, a 7-foot-1 center from France, was acquired in June. Denver drafted him with the 27th pick in the first round before sending him to Utah for Erick Green, the 47th pick, and cash.

With his 7-9 wingspan on prominent display, Gobert played well in the Orlando Summer League. So far in the preseason, however, no healthy player on the Jazz's 20-man roster has played less.

Coach Tyrone Corbin has gotten Gobert into two games for a total of 17 minutes. He hasn't played in the last two — a 106-74 loss to the L.A. Clippers and a 99-92 loss to Portland.

"That's training camp," Corbin said before practice Thursday morning.

Gobert is one of six centers/power forwards on the roster, which explains part of Corbin's predicament when it comes to getting him into games.

Derrick Favors and Enes Kanter are Utah's starters and must be prepared for the start of the season.

Corbin also is trying to find out how much he can count on veteran Andris Biedrins, who was acquired from Golden State during the offseason.

In addition, free agents Brian Cook and Dominic McGuire are getting a look from the Jazz, meaning even fewer available minutes for Gobert.

"He's still working hard to get into better shape [and] to use his size," Corbin said. "One of the things right now is we want to make sure the matchups are right for him."

Corbin said he considered using Gobert in Wednesday night's game against the Trail Blazers, but he decided not to throw him onto the court against 260-pound Robin Lopez.

"I thought about it," Corbin said, "but [Lopez] is a bigger body — a big, big body. So I wanted some others on him. But Rudy's working and he'll get his moments."

Off the mark

Jazz guard Alec Burks missed 12 of his 13 field-goal attempts against Portland.

Corbin didn't sound concerned.

"He's a guy who's going to have the ball in his hands," the Jazz coach said. "For the most part, I thought he shot the right shots. … Those are shots he's capable of making."

Backup point guards

In the wake of rookie Trey Burke's fractured finger and resulting surgery, the Jazz still are exploring their options at point guard.

Raymond Brothers, the agent for Jamaal Tinsley, told The Tribune earlier this week there was "mutual interest" in his client signing with Utah.

"He's a guy that's on the list," Corbin said. "We haven't decided what we're going to do yet. He's a guy we're comfortable with. I really respect what he brings to the team. We'll look and see if it's the right fit going forward." —
