Ephraim • The Utah Board of Regents named Deneece Huftalin as interim president of Salt Lake Community College Friday.

Her appointment is effective Jan. 1.

She will replace president Cynthia Bioteau, who is leaving to become president of Florida State College at Jacksonville. The regents also approved the formation of a committee to conduct a national search for Bioteau's permanent replacement.

Huftalin, the vice president for student services, has worked at SLCC for more than 20 years, also serving as director of academic and career advising and as dean of students. She also teaches education leadership at the University of Utah, where she earned a bachelor's degree as well as a doctorate in education, leadership and policy. Huftalin also holds a master's degree from the University of California, Los Angeles.
