Even before they scrutinized a lot of tape on Colorado, the Utes were aware of the talents of receiver Paul Richardson, who is seventh in the nation averaging 117.2 receiving yards a game.
The 6-foot-1, 170-pound junior has six 100-yard games this year and has scored 10 touchdowns.
"He is a guy that has made a lot of plays for them this year," Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said. "We've got to try to have an answer for him."
Utah's defense is still feeling the sting of giving up 488 passing yards to Washington State and would like to go out with at least a good effort against the Buffs, who are averaging 246.9 yards passing, defensive end Trevor Reilly said.
"I know him and he is a tough player," Reilly said. "We've faced a lot of teams with good players this year.
Pac-12 Academic team: The Utes were well represented on the Pac-12 All-Academic football team announced Tuesday with junior offensive lineman Marc Pouvave and junior linebacker V.J. Fehoko making the first team while senior receiver Sean Fitzgerald and defensive back Mike Honeycutt made the second team. Receiver Dres Anderson, receiver Anthony Denham, defensive end Hunter Dimick, linebacker Jacoby Hale, receiver Delshawn McClellon, linebacker Jared Norris, running back Bubba Poole, lineman Jeremiah Poutasi, running back Lucky Radley, linebacker Jason Whittingham, quarterback Travis Wilson and running back Kelvin York were all honorable mention.
To be eligible, players had to have at least a GPA of 3.0 and earn significant playing time.
100 mark: Receiver Dres Anderson needs 92 yards against Colorado to reach the 1,000 mark, which would make him just the seventh Ute to reach the milestone. Currently his 908 receiving yards this year ranks ninth in school history. His 129-yard performance against WSU moved him into a tie with Dennis Smith (1989) and Louis Thomas (1968) for the school record for 100-yard games with six.
Whittingham didn't realize Anderson was at the top of the record books.
"It's good to hear," he said. "He has done some good things for us. He wasn't quite as consistent as he wanted to be and should be, but overall he took a step forward."
