The Enzo Martinez era at Real Salt Lake is over.

The former first-round pick in the 2012 Major League Soccer SuperDraft is moving on from the club which drafted him 17th overall after his player option was declined Thursday. The 23-year-old midfielder from Montevideo, Uruguay, grew up in South Carolina where he was eventually named ESPN's Rise High School Player of the Decade in boys' high school soccer. He went on to play collegiate soccer at the University of North Carolina for three seasons before being drafted by RSL in 2012.

During his time at RSL, Martinez never managed to make a first-team appearance. He starred in reserve league matches in his two years with the club, but was eventually sent out on loan in 2013 to the NASL and back to the East Coast to play with the Carolina RailHawks. In 15 appearances with Carolina in 2013, Martinez scored three goals. A team source said Martinez will return to the RailHawks in 2014.

RSL currently has 26 players on its roster and could carry as many as 28 going into training camp, which starts in two weeks in Casa Grande, Ariz. The club could conceivably make more moves with the upcoming MLS SuperDraft on Thursday, Jan. 17, in Philadelphia, Pa.
