Another bit of bad news for Utah's LGBT community: One of Salt Lake City's most beloved gay bars, The Trapp, has closed.
Patrons posted the news of The Trapp's final night Wednesday on social media — and even one of the bar's longtime bartenders, Johnny Harris, waxed nostalgic about it.
Harris posted on his Facebook feed a photo of his bartending nametag, which he has worn for 21 years. "Anyone whokknows me knows it's one of my greatest joys," Harris wrote. "I know the bar will open again and be better than ever."
The Trapp, at 102 S. 600 West in Salt Lake City (in the shadow of The Gateway, and visible from the Tribune's newsroom), is reportedly undergoing a change in ownership. No word yet on when it will reopen, or whether it will have a new name — or whether the bar's trademark mirrorball-like cowboy boot will be retained.
