The Utah government ordering state agencies not to honor legal same-sex marriages is just unconscionable ("Utah's action on gay marriage 'puts my kids at risk,'" Tribune, Jan. 9). As a straight Utahn, I believe the time and money spent by my state is yet another total Don Quixote waste and, more important, an insult to human equality and dignity. Just wrong.

I know that I have friends who feel different and I respect their right to think differently, but to me this is an equality and moral issue that cuts to the core of individuals who know who they are as human beings.

To quote the pledge that reaffirms fundamental ideals of our country and that most of us have said many times, "with Liberty and Justice for all."
