A Mendon man has been arrested after Cache County sheriff's investigators raided his home and seized computing equipment allegedly containing pornographic images of children.
Sheriff Lynn Nelson said the Thursday afternoon arrest of the 28-year-old man came after his office, through involvement of some of its staff in the Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce, learned the images had been downloaded to a computer at the home.
Armed with a search warrant, deputies went to the residence and seized the suspect's computer and several other data storage devices containing "numerous," but other unspecified amounts of images of "children obviously younger than 18 years of age," Nelson said.
The sheriff was pleased with the bust, but said he was concerned with what he perceived as an "increased trend of these types of crimes.
"For our office to proactively investigate and make an arrest in this case is significant to the safety and quality of life in our valley," Nelson added. "I am confident that this investigation saved future victims."
Booking records show the suspect remained in Cache County Jail on Friday in lieu of $100,000 bail. He was being held on suspicion of 10 second-degree felony counts of exploitation of a minor.
