Two new Wal-Mart Neighborhood Markets will open in early 2015 in the south Salt Lake Valley, the company said.

The new stores will be at 5600 W. 13400 South, Herriman; and at 1300 W. Highway 71, Riverton.

The smaller format Wal-Mart stores each will be about 42,000 square feet — about a fourth the size of a Wal-Mart Superstore — and will sell grocery items including fresh produce. The stores also will carry deli foods, bakery items and household supplies and will have full-service pharmacies.

Each will employ about 95 full- and part-time workers. Wal-Mart said it will open hiring centers near each new location later this year.

Herriman City welcomes the new store, Mayor Carmen Freeman said in a statement. "As a national chain, Wal-Mart has a proven track record of contributing to the community and providing affordable and needed services,"

The Arkansas-based company currently operates 300 Neighborhood Market stores nationwide, including six in Utah. The most recent Utah Neighborhood Market opened earlier this month in Provo.

Wal-Mart also operates 40 Supercenter stores and eight Sam's Clubs in Utah.
