Spanish Fork • While winning championship number one is a glorious moment, a second in a row can sometimes feel a bit blasé.

But not when it comes to the Stansbury Stallions softball team. On Saturday, Stansbury wrapped up back-to-back Class 3A crowns by beating Uintah 8-3 in the title game.

Anjalee Batchelor, who smashed two home runs in the finale, was hardly nonchalant about her team grabbing the first-place trophy again.

"It feels amazing," said Batchelor, trying to check herself from hyperventilating from the excitement. "I just trusted my teammates and what we could do. The love for everything, the love of the game. I was just so nervous up there — this is so big."

After winning their first title in school history a year ago, the Stallions graduated five starters who went on to play college ball.

"We lost all our seniors last year. We were underddogs and we showed what we could do," Stansbury senior Kilee Christiansen said after her squad knocked off Uintah for the second time in two days in the 3A tourney. "We came out strong like we did yesterday. We knew if we played with heart, we could get 'em."

Christiansen had a crucial blow in the five-running first inning that gave Stansbury (20-3) an immediate cushion. With a 1-0 lead already, Christiansen clubbed a three-run homer to center field.

Uintah (20-5) got two runs back in the third on RBI-singles from Summer Stensgard and Tasha Barker, but Batchelor's fence-clearing swings in the fourth and sixth innings extended the margin back to six runs.

The Utes scored one run on the final play of the game when Jaden Lance crossed the plate before Barker, who had hit a double, was caught in a rundown between second and third.

Earlier on Saturday, Uintah overcame a 5-1 deficit to Canyon View to move to the championship with an 8-5 victory.

"I think a lot of emotion went out of us in that game. But no excuses, we were excited to play again, but [Stansbury] is a great team," Utes coach Jaimey Smuin said.

"Between Cheetah [Stallions leadoff hitter Janessa Bassett] and Beth Chipman, and what they've got behind them, they can hit the ball and they've got speed."

"It's been a special year," Stansbury coach Bridget Clinton said. "We were definitely overlooked, but we liked that." —
