A two-alarm fire at Talisman Foods Inc. in South Salt Lake on Thursday morning started in a deep-fat fryer and caused an estimated $100,000 to $200,000 in damage, officials said.

Firefighters from multiple agencies rushed to the scene of the fire, which was reported just before 8 a.m. at 3324 S. 200 East at Talisman Foods Inc., a condiments and food products manufacturer.

No serious injuries were reported, though two employees were treated at the scene for minor burns. The fire was under control as of 8:40 a.m.

South Salt Lake Fire Battalion Chief Kent Robertson said there had been early concern about ammonia storage tanks on the scene, but they did not appear to have been compromised. However, hazmat workers were called in to check on the tanks, used for refrigeration purpose.

Robertson said units from Unified Fire Authority and neighboring Murray and West Valley City assisted South Salt Lake crews in snuffing the flames.

The damages were extensive, particularly in the business' manufacturing area, and the business will be shut down for an extended period, Robertson said.
