Cache County Search and Rescue workers were called onto the snowy slopes near Tony Grove Lake early Sunday afternoon after a 10-year-old snowmobiler was seriously injured in a crash.
Sheriff's Lt. Doyle Peck said the accident occurred about 1 p.m. approximately 1 mile west of the lake.
The boy, from Providence, was reported to be conscious, but had suffered arm, hip and stomach injuries.
By 2:30 p.m., the helicopter had arrived to fly the youth to Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City.
Peck said the boy was with a group of snowmobilers which had stopped for a break. However, the boy continued to ride his father's machine, failed to see a 60-foot dropoff and was unable to stop before going over.
"A member of the group was able to get to the top of the ridge and made contact with [dispatchers]," Peck said. "GPS coordinates were obtained from the individual's cellphone."
A medical helicopter helicopter landed closeby the boy and the crew was able to walk him to the aircraft.
