A 36-year-old man was allegedly driving drunk on Friday morning when he drove his truck through the front window of a Mexican restaurant in Kearns, said Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal.

At 3:43 a.m., Unified Police responded to a call that a truck had smashed into El Super Taco Mex, at 4090 West 5415 South. Police arrived four minutes later to find the man, who appeared to be drunk, behind the wheel of the truck.

The man had just left Los Coyotes, another Mexican restaurant in the business complex. He was attempting to move his truck when he lost control and drove into El Super Taco Mex, said Hoyal.

When Jeff Clark, a manager of the tattoo and piercing shop next door, arrived at work at 11 a.m., he saw shattered glass strewn across the parking lot in front of the restaurant.

"It looked like a small hurricane went through," said Clark, adding that the restaurant's steel support beam was broken in half.

"I got out of the car and was like, 'Woah,' " said Clark.

Hoyal said the driver, who was uninjured, was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
