The Utah State Prison in Draper was on lockdown Wednesday after an inmate was stabbed during a melee.
The gang-related fight, which erupted at 10 a.m. at the prison's Wasatch unit, involved 11 inmates, said Brooke Adams of the Utah State Department of Corrections.
Two inmates suffered stab and blunt force trauma wounds and were taken by ambulance to the hospital. The other recieved "bumps and bruises from being involved in a fight," Adams said.
The fight took place at the Utah State Prison system's Wasatch Facility, which can house up to 4,300 offenders. Adams was unsure how often brawls break out at the prison, but she said full facility.
Three parts of Wasatch remain on lock down until at least Thursday morning.
An investigation is ongoing, and Adams said the inmates involved in the fight could face charges.
"Assault is a crime, and it's a crime whether you're in prison or not in prison," Adams said.
