For a century of support in moving visitors around to see the state's natural wonders, Lewis Stages received this year's "tourism achievement award" from Visit Salt Lake.
The highest honor handed out by what once was called the convention and visitors bureau, the award recognized the bus company for its work to benefit Salt Lake County's tourism community.
"Lewis Stages has been a stalwart partner in all aspects of our sales and marketing efforts," said Visit Salt Lake President and CEO Scott Beck.
"Though this honor is long overdue, we felt bestowing this award on their 100th anniversary was most fitting," he added. "Reaching that milestone is an incredible achievement in its own right, considering the incredible highs and lows our country has experienced in the past century."
In 1914, 16-year old Orson Lewis started the company with a Model T and the state's first chauffeur license. In 2014, it is a division of All Resort Group with operations in 11 Western states and about 350 employees.
At various times in between, Lewis Stages has worked closely with Rio Tinto/Kennecott, the Utah Symphony, the University of Utah athletic department and the Salt Lake Organizing Committee, contributing 225 motor coaches to the 2002 Winter Olympic transportation system.
