Hurricane police have added a four-footed officer to the force, a 3-year-old Belgium Malinois named Paige.

Sgt. Brandon Buell said Monday that the K-9 officer is a "dual purpose" law enforcement canine, having been trained in both criminal apprehension and narcotics detection.

Buell did not say how much Paige cost the department, but did say that the purchase was made possible by asset forfeiture funds.

Paige will be teamed up with her handler, Officer Jayson Despain, who is undergoing training with the dog prior deployment.
