Directions • Remember to purchase your recreation pass at the Forest Service office in Kamas, 50 E. Center St., or at the self-pay stations along Highway 150. To reach the trail head from Kamas, take Highway 150 east for 9.8 miles. A few hundred yards past the turn for Shingle Creek Campground is the sign for Shingle Creek Trail. It's on the north side of the road. A short gravel road will take you to the trail head.
The Shingle Creek Trail is a mix of steep and gradual ascents through forests and meadows and finishing at East Shingle Creek Lake. The trail largely follows Shingle Creek, and you should be prepared to get your feet and pant legs wet crossing it. A footbridge crosses the creek one-third of a mile from the trail head. At 2.69 miles is the remnants of another bridge. On the other side is the hardest part of the trial: an ascent up steep, loose gravel that continues for most of next sixth-tenths of a mile. At 3.71 miles is another smashed bridge. East Shingle Creek Lake is 6.66 miles from the parking lot.
