Vans Warped Tour • Think of the Vans Warped Tour — which makes its second-to-last stop of the year in Salt Lake City — as a smorgasbord of rock music, with some 88 acts on multiple stages. Think of it as a cool party, with extreme sports demonstrations and other stuff. Or think of it as every teen and 20-something you know having fun in the sun. (Hydrate, people, and apply sunscreen generously.) Among the bands playing this year: L.A. sibling alt-pop band Echosmith, California metal-core band Of Mice and Men and emo-filled German electro-pop duo Captain Capa. (See videos from a few of the bands playing below at left.)

Bareilles' year was also marked with a powerful Grammy performance that paired her with the legendary Carole King. Opening acts: Emily King, Hannah Georgas.
