A hiker who was reported missing was found dead Saturday morning in the White Pine area of Little Cottonwood Canyon.
The hiker, Andrew Sharp, 35, appears to have died in a fall, the Unified Police Department says.
Sharp asked a friend in a text message sent about noon Friday to pick him up at 2:30 p.m. that day at the White Pine Trailhead, UPD Lt. Justin Hoyal said. The friend called police when Sharp who was hiking alone and whose vehicle was found in the Albion Basin area didn't show up.
UPD officers and the Utah Department of Public Safety, which sent up a helicopter, searched the area until dark on Friday and resumed looking Saturday, when they found the hiker about 7 a.m. Sharp's body has been taken to the Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy, Hoyal said.
Sharp lived in the Salt Lake Valley, UPD reported in a tweet.
