Grantsville • What's in a name?

If you're a Tooele High School Brady, it's about 160 yards of offense, three touchdowns and a pass deflection, just for good measure.

Brothers Ryan and Jake Brady were dominant Friday for Tooele as the team cruised past rival Grantsville 21-0. Ryan, the quarterback, had 77 yards of offense and a pair of passing touchdowns. Jake, the running back, racked up 96 yards and a touchdown of his own.

Rounding out the brotherly group is Tooele head coach Kyle Brady, whose defense kept Grantsville in the middle of the field and whose offense squeezed out big plays when it mattered.

"It's always big to get a win. It's especially good against a rival like Grantsville," Coach Brady said. "They came out ready to play and they're a tough, tough team."

The game started off slowly, both teams grinding out meaningful possessions, but never pushing it across the goal line.

The deadlock was broken with only 30 seconds remaining in the first half, as Ryan Brady scored on a 2-yard keeper. The second half opened with a Tooele three-and-out, but Grantsville couldn't capitalize, as a fourth-down conversion attempt turned into an interception for Tooele safety Jonathon Ficken.

Ficken continued to show soft hands on the other side of the ball, catching a 25-yard pass from Ryan Brady in the right corner of the south end zone to polish off an 80-yard drive and put Tooele up 14-0.

"He's a big player for us, good safety, can catch the ball on the outside for us," said coach Brady. "We don't throw the ball a whole bunch, but when we need it, he's a playmaker for us."

Ficken, who would grab two interceptions on the night, said he was focused on making big plays as a senior player.

"I wanted to do everything for my fans, my family and my fallen brothers, so that's who I did it for," the safety said.

Grantsville was stout defensively, but looked sluggish and imprecise on offense after quarterback Nephi Meono appeared to hurt his hip early on. —
