Utah residents can start registering Wednesday for the 2015 Sundance Film Festival's locals-only passes — and this year, there's a new Salt Lake City venue for locals to see movies.

The Sundance Institute announced today that it will add the Grand Theatre at Salt Lake Community College's Center for Arts and Media, at 1575 S. State St., Salt Lake City, as a venue for the festival.

The 1,100-seat Grand becomes the largest Sundance venue in Salt Lake City — and the second-largest overall, behind Park City's Eccles Theatre. Adding the Grand will mean about 20,000 more seats over the festival's run from Jan. 22 to Feb. 1.

There will be 19 screenings from the Premieres slate and the U.S. Dramatic competition at the Grand, on the opening and closing weekends (Friday, Saturday and Sunday). The Salt Lake City Gala will remain at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center, however.

Sundance will also offer a new Grand Pass for Utah residents, which for $300 will gain access to all screenings at the Grand. Locals also can get a SLC-Ogden Pass, for $400, that provides access to all Salt Lake City and Ogden screenings. For details, go to the Sundance website, sundance.org/locals.

Utah residents can start registering for passes and ticket packages Wednesday, by going to the festival's ticket website, sundance.org/tickets. Registration runs through Oct. 8. Those who register will receive an email on Oct. 10, informing them of their randomly assigned timeslot to purchase passes and packages online in October.
