Posted: 3:44 PM- Davis County Commissioner Alan Hansen does not intend to seek a second term this year, a move designed to preserve his health and allow him more time with family, including two granddaughters.

"I want to ensure that my health stays good," said Hansen, who has had diabetes for more than 40 years.

Hansen, 53, said he plans to return to the private sector, but is unsure what job he will take. Before he was elected in 2004, Hansen worked for Pinnacle Marketing.

He jumped into politics at age 18 in 1972 as a delegate to the county and state Republican conventions and served on Clearfield's Planning Commission and City Council before running for Davis County Commission.

As a commissioner, he has donated $10,000 per year of his salary to create a scholarship fund at the Davis Applied Technology Center in Kaysville.

One northern Davis County resident is getting a head start on the competition for Hansen's seat.

West Point resident Randy Minson, a communications consultant, said he will run for the seat. A Republican, Minson said in a news release that he would fight for lower taxes.

Candidates can begin filing for county offices March 7.
