Posted: 9:47 AM- OGDEN - A 21-year-old who was caught trying to steal the Ogden mayor's bicycle has been sentenced to a year in jail.

Mayor Matthew Godfrey caught Curtis James Poorman in the act last October and tackled him as he tried to ride off with the bike, retaining him until police arrived.

Poorman was charged with robbery, burglary and possession of marijuana, all dismissed in a plea bargain last month except for second-degree felony robbery.

Godfrey didn't ask for Poorman to serve jail time, but a judge mandated the sentence after reviewing his record, which includes several other burglaries.
