College collage: Westminster College presents its first Faculty Collage concert tonight at 7:30 in the new Vieve Gore Concert Hall, 1250 E. 1700 South, Salt Lake City. Admission is free.

On the program are the Poulenc Sonata for Flute and Piano, performed by flutist Sally Humphreys and pianist Vedrana Subotic; a Beethoven sonata movement and Emma Lou Diemer's Toccata, performed by pianist Hope Holder; a jazz improvisation by trumpeter Bob Taylor; three short Rachmaninoff pieces, played by Subotic; five songs by Samuel Barber, sung by soprano Cheryl Hart and accompanied by pianist Karlyn Bond; and Chopin's Introduction and Polonaise, Op. 3, with cellist Jesus Morales and Subotic.

Blown away: The University of Utah's runnin' flUTES flute choir will give a free concert tonight at 7:30 in Dumke Recital Hall of the U.'s Gardner Hall. Repertoire includes music of Bach, Mendelssohn, Karg-Elert and Christopher Caliendo. Brian Elkins will conduct his own composition, and Rachel Whitchurch will conduct her arrangement of Holst's "St. Paul" Suite. Tiffany McCleary will conduct the rest of the program.

New music: Composers Guild Spectacular 2005, featuring winning entries from the guild's 2004 competition, is Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Wasatch Presbyterian Church, 1700 E. 1700 South, Salt Lake City. Admission is free. The program includes music of Utah composers Damian Atiya, Jay L. Beck, John Bright, Chad Cannon, Cori Connors, Brian Jackson Fetzer, Jeremy Finlay, Ruth Gatrell, Mandi Kitchen, A. Laurence Lyon, Charlene Newell, Jane Poulsen, Jordan Savas, Jeff Stone and Darwin Wolford.

Aria ready? The Metropolitan Opera Utah District preliminary auditions are Friday at noon in the Conference Center Theater north of downtown Salt Lake City's Temple Square, with the district finals Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the Temple Square Assembly Hall. Admission is free; light refreshments will be served at a reception immediately after Saturday's round, at which the winners will be announced. Three singers will advance to the Rocky Mountain Regional finals in Denver; regional winners go to New York to compete for consideration in the Met's artist-development program.

Midway music: The Music Makers, a big-band orchestra playing tunes from the 1920s, '30s and '40s, will perform Friday at 7 p.m. in Midway Town Hall, 140 W. Main St., Midway. Admission is free, but donations to support IHC Hospice's charitable mission in Wasatch and Summit counties are welcome.

Paradigm Fest closer: The Paradigm Trio Festival concludes with a pair of concerts Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in First United Methodist Church, 203 S. 200 East, Salt Lake City. Violinist Kelly Parkinson, violist Joel Rosenberg and pianist Jed Moss will perform Schubert's Trio in B-flat Major and a trio arrangement of Brahms' Sextet in G Major. Donations will benefit Utahns Against Hunger.

Gospel truth: The Weber State University Diversity Center will present the fifth annual Gospel Music Festival at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Austad Auditorium of the Browning Center at WSU, Ogden. The program will feature a variety of community and WSU choirs, including the First United Methodist Choir, Hill Air Force Base Mass Choir, Kids R Music, Mountain View Baptist Choir, New Zion Baptist Choir, Second Baptist Choir, Soulja, Unity Baptist (4 Ever Focus), Washington Heights Baptist Choir and WSU Concert Choir. Admission is free.

From the U. to Ogden: The New American Symphony Orchestra performs Friday at Ogden's Ben Lomond High and Saturday in the Austad Auditorium of Weber State University's Browning Center, Ogden. Friday's concert is free. Admission Saturday is $4.50; $3.50 for students, seniors and those with military ID. Both concerts begin at 7:30 p.m.

Robert Baldwin, director of orchestral activities at the University of Utah, is guest conductor in Beethoven's Symphony No. 8 and Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2; Heather Jeanne Conner, a member of the U.'s piano faculty, is the soloist.

Teton tales: Former Four Freshmen trombonist Kevin Stout and Salt Lake City jazz saxophonist Brian Booth will perform selections from their new CD, "Tales of the Tetons," Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the Black Box Theatre at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center, 138 W. 300 South, Salt Lake City. Tickets are $12; $9 for students and seniors; $15 at the door.

Viennese tales: The Salt Lake Symphony presents its annual "Evening in Vienna" on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in Abravanel Hall, 123 W. South Temple, Salt Lake City. Guest conductor Todd Fiegel will lead the orchestra in Viennese favorites including Suppé's "Light Cavalry" Overture and Strauss' "Radetzky March." Soprano Rebecca Brandt Hample is featured in arias such as "Vilja" from Leh!r's "The Merry Widow" and a medley from "The Sound of Music." The Salt Lake Symphony's alphorn quartet will perform a prelude to the concert in Abravanel Hall's foyer.
