University of Utah police have arrested a 31-year-old man they say sexually assaulted two women on campus earlier this month.

Gary W. Fotheringham was booked into the Salt Lake County jail Friday and charged with counts of forcible sexual abuse and voyeurism.

The man was seen inside a women's locker room, watching victims dress, on the morning of Nov. 4, police said. Later that afternoon, the man reached around and groped a woman as she was walking through a lower campus building, official said.

Then, about 8:40 p.m., the man allegedly followed another woman to her car and groped her as she attempted to get inside. Fotheringham tried to cover the woman's mouth with his hand and she bit his right finger, the charges state. When the investigation led detectives to Fotheringham, court documents state, the man had an injury to one of his fingers.

Fotheringham was charged in 3rd District Court with three counts of forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony, and two counts of class B misdemeanor voyeurism.

Fotheringham was being held Friday in lieu of $200,000 bail.

University of Utah police had arrested Fotheringham last year for lewdness in a women's restroom. According to documents filed in 3rd District Court, Fotheringham tried to film a woman in a bathroom stall with a cell phone camera. Fotheringham pleaded guilty to a class B misdemeanor count and was sentenced to 12 months' probation.

Fotheringham is not listed as a U. student or employee, according to searches of the school's online directory of students and employees, and a search of Utahsright.
