A Democratic senator from Pocatello has pleaded guilty to a drunken driving charge.

Ada County court records say Sen. Edgar Malepeai (MAL'-uh-pay-eye) entered the plea to the misdemeanor DUI charge in Boise on Thursday.

He was fined $732, placed on probation for one year, had his driving privileges revoked for 90 days and was ordered to attend educational classes and a DUI victim's panel.

Police say the 59-year-old Malepeai was arrested early Dec. 3 after being pulled over in Boise for a traffic violation.

Malepeai was elected minority caucus chair by his Democratic colleagues after his arrest.
