One person died Monday during a head-on car crash in Bountiful.

The collision happened just before noon on Monday near 620 N. 500 West. Police authorities said a 64-year-old man was driving a silver BMW southbound on 500 West when he crossed the center line and hit a silver Dodge pickup truck head-on.

The BMW driver, whose name was not immediately released, died at the scene of the crash. The 37-year-old truck driver had minor injuries, and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Several witnesses told police that the BMW was speeding and weaving through traffic while driving south on Interstate 15. As the car exited the freeway, the driver collided with a concrete barrier before traveling another 1/4 mile and colliding with the northbound pick-up truck.

An investigation is ongoing, according to Lt. Dave Edwards.
