Provo • Unless BYU faces Saint Mary's or Pacific in the West Coast Conference tournament next month in Las Vegas, guard Anson Winder will go without facing those two traveling partners his senior year.

For the second-straight game, Winder was held out of the lineup on Saturday night as the Cougars faced Pacific at the Marriott Center. He's still trying to recover from a groin pull suffered against Pepperdine on Feb. 5.

The injury also forced Winder to miss Thursday's 82-60 win over Saint Mary's.

Coach Dave Rose said before Saturday's game that BYU hopes to have Winder back on Thursday, when it plays host to San Diego. That will be senior night, and the Cougars will honor Winder and four other seniors — Tyler Haws, Josh Sharp, Nate Austin and Skyler Halford.

Winder missed playing against SMC and Pacific last month in the Bay Area because he was recovering from a bruised knee.

The Cougars used the starting lineup of Kyle Collinsworth, Haws, Chase Fischer, Corbin Kaufusi and Sharp for the third-straight game on Saturday.

It was the sixth-straight start for Kaufusi and the third in a row for Sharp. Eleven different players have started at least two games this season for BYU.

Post players progress

It appears the four-guard lineup that Rose started extensively in January and used during crunch time of games is a thing of the past. Especially with Winder ailing, BYU's bigs are getting more and more playing time.

"They are young guys," Rose said of his post players. "You are talking about guys who, either they haven't played a lot of college basketball, or high school basketball has been a ways away because they have been on missions."

Sharp had two big rebounds before picking up his second foul just five minutes into the game.

Briefly

Pacific started two players from foreign countries Saturday night: David Taylor from Eckersdorf, Germany, and Gabriel Aguirre from Sao Paolo. Both played at San Francisco City College before moving on to Stockton, Calif. … Haws entered the game needing 55 points to pass Jimmer Fredette for first place on BYU's all-time scoring list. He had nine at halftime. … Officials on Saturday were Michael Greenstein, Klaus Endrissat and Daryl Gelinas.
