The motorcycle officer thought he "seemed like a really nice kid," so he ran it by his shift supervisor, who approved.
So Joubert pulled the boyfriend over about 5 p.m. Saturday on Wildcat Way in Woods Cross, "so [that] it was out of the way," he said.
They pulled into the parking lot of Woods Cross High School, where an event was wrapping up and provided "quite the audience," Joubert said.
"He wanted me to call him out of the car like he was going to be arrested," Joubert said.
The officer did, called out the girlfriend as well, and the boyfriend took a knee.
She said yes.
Joubert posted the happy moment to the department's Twitter feed, wishing the couple congratulations.
