Draper • Tristan Broadbent made certain that Waterford will get a chance to defend its Class 2A boys' soccer championship Saturday at Rio Tinto Stadium.

The senior star scored two goals on a rainy Friday to lead the Eagles to a 4-1 victory over Delta and give them a chance to capture their fifth championship.

That set up a battle with American Leadership Academy that seemed destined to happen much of this season, as the two schools have dominated Class 2A throughout.

Coach George Shirley's team dominated a game in which much of the second half was played in a downpour.

Patrick Dowd put Waterford on the board early, then Broadbent scored two beautiful goals.

Delta made a game of it on a goal by Jaden Dutson, but it was too little, too late.

By the time Sean Keough scored an insurance goal, a happy-but-wet Waterford sideline and crowd were already starting to celebrate.

American Leadership Academy 4, Manti 0 • The Eagles will play for their second soccer championship in three years after dominating the Templars.

Juve Almanza scored three goals as the Spanish Fork charter school built up a 3-0 lead in the first half and added a goal in the second half.

"The first half was a lot better," said Eagle coach Stephen Solen. "We controlled the rhythm and controlled the flow. We had a lot better passes. In the second half, Manti came out really hard and tested us. We didn't want to quit. They gave us 40 minutes to make us work hard."

Solen said his team was thrilled to be playing for the title at Rio Tinto Stadium.

"It is a great place," he said. "There is a great spirit and a great feel there."
