A 23-year-old man died Thursday afternoon after suffering a head injury while climbing near Big Cave in Green Canyon in Cache County.

The man fell 50 to 100 feet about 3 p.m., said Chief Deputy Matt Bilodeau of the Cache County sheriff's office.

Rescue teams had been working to remove the climber's body but the recovery operation was called off when severe weather, including multiple lightning strikes, closed in, Bilodeau said. He said the rescuers will return when the weather clears.

The victim's name will not be released until the next of kin has been notified.

Green Canyon is located just east of Logan City.
